Kobe Bryant was born in Philadelphia on August 23, 1978, to a Catholic family. He was the only son of Pamela Cox Bryant and former NBA player Joe Bryant and Pamela Cox Bryant. His parents named him after the famous beef of Kobe when they saw it on a restaurant menu.
